Privacy Policy

Information we collect

• Account info: your name, email address, and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
• Game content: anything you submit while playing — nicknames, answers, and votes — which is visible to other players in the same game as designed.
• Push notifications: if you opt in, we store a push subscription endpoint (provided by your browser) so we can send you game notifications. You can turn this off anytime in Settings.
• Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) generated automatically by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.
• Cookies: a session cookie to keep you logged in, and a first-party analytics cookie (PostHog) that helps us see how the app is used. We don't use third-party advertising cookies today.

How we use it

We use this information to:

• Run the game — create your account, let you join/host games, and show your answers/votes to the other players in that game.
• Send you notifications you've opted into.
• Keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
• Improve Rumorous over time.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run Rumorous, who process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments:

• Vercel — application hosting.
• Neon — database hosting (where your account and game data is stored).
• Ably — delivers live in-game updates (e.g. "so-and-so answered") to other players' devices in real time; it passes this data through but doesn't retain it.
• Sentry — receives technical error reports (e.g. what broke and where) so we can fix bugs. Error reports may incidentally include your email if you were logged in when something went wrong.
• PostHog — product analytics, so we can see things like which pages get used and where people drop off. It's configured to identify you only after you're logged in, not to track anonymous visitors across other sites.

We don't currently show ads. If that changes, we'll update this policy before it does, and any advertising partners we add will be listed here.

Your choices

You can update your nickname and notification settings at any time from within the app. To access, correct, or delete your account and associated data, email us at smfautomations@gmail.com and we'll take care of it.

Children's privacy

Rumorous is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

Data retention

We keep your account and game data for as long as your account is active, or until you ask us to delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
